Tasmanian Bushfires

Letter from the CEO

Bush Fires- Animal Victims

Firstly I would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to those who have lost so much during these devastating fires.  it is impossible for to imagine the horror of this sort of disaster.

And of course along with the human suffering there is a mass of animal suffering both for our companion animals, our livestock and wildlife.

We are in the process of working through with the appropriate authorities the needs of each of these groups of animals and where best to direct our efforts to help the animal communities of the Sorell and Tasman municpalities.

In the meantime we are asking that people, where possible, to bring any injured animals to us so we can asses their injuries and treat as required.  This service does not involve a consultation fee.  if possible please ring prior to coming in.  This service is available at either Sorell or Bellerive hospitals.

If there are problems with livestock we are happy to attend as able and as roads become accessible.

We have been delighted with the offers of money and help but until we know what our role is and what is required it is not possible to accept donations. You can donate money to assist with animals via the RSPCA website. (www.RSPCA.com.au)

We will keep you updated as we know more.

Thank You

Dr Andrew Dudgeon
